Legal Assistants schedule appointments, meetings and arrange conferences.[/caption]
Many legal assistants enjoy the best of both worlds. They get the stability and challenge of a lawyer’s job, with a bit less stress (depending on where you work). It’s an industry with a growing need for young talent. If you’re focused and detail-oriented, it might be perfect for you.
Your Day-to-Day Tasks Will Include:
- Preparing legal documents, such as deeds, wills, affidavits and briefs
- Reviewing and proofreading documents and correspondence to ensure compliance with legal procedures and grammatical usage
- Scheduling appointments, meetings and conferences
- Setting up and maintain filing systems
- Handling regular and electronic mail and other incoming materials
- Maintaining office procedures and routines
- Taking notes, minutes and dictation
What Else Do I Need:
If you want to upgrade to become a paralegal, you might need to take more courses, or be certified provincially, depending on what province you want to work/study in.
Where the jobs are:
You can find work in offices all over Canada and can fill other roles like corporate law legal assistant, legal secretary, litigation legal assistant, litigation secretary or real estate secretary.
