TD Bank Group and The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Want Students to Study Health Sciences

Corey participated in the 2010 Discovery Day at The University of Western Ontario and is pleased that his fellow classmates will have the same opportunity in 2011.

The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame thinks the way to reach students’ brains is to let them hold an actual brain in their hands. The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame has partnered with TD Bank Group to host The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame’s TD Discovery Days in Health Sciences.

The events seek to attract young people to study health sciences in school and perhaps work in the field some day.

“These workshops aren’t the dull “frog dissection” labs of Grade 11 biology class. This hands-on exploration used pre‐dissected cadavers to show students structure of the human body and how it functions,” said a press release from The Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.

Last year, Harveen Sidiura (age 18) went to one of these workshops at the University of Waterloo and said holding a brain blew her mind.

“The anatomy lab was the biggest thing because I actually got to see inside [the body]. That really inspired me. The best part was looking at the human brain,” said Ms. Sidiura.
“I got a chance to hold the whole human brain in my hand, that was really cool.”
