New EMR Program at Northern Lakes College Increases To 8 Weeks
This new upgrade of the program will give students a firmer knowledge base in anticipation of successful fulfillment of their provincial licensing exam.
The new EMR program is scheduled to begin in September 2013, with additional training offered at several locations across northern Alberta. Northern Lakes College has campuses in over 25 rural and remote communities across north-central and north-western Alberta.
“Northern Lakes College is a leader in pre-hospital education,” says Bonnie Porat, Director, Health Career Programs at Northern Lakes College. “We are established in this area and feel that we are poised to be leaders in changing how Emergency Medical Responder is delivered in Alberta.”
“We have strengthened and lengthened the program with the intent that students will be better equipped to pass provincial exam and enter the field of emergency health services as a safe and competent provider,” adds Porat. “Our grads will continue to represent the superior quality of education they receive at Northern Lakes College.”
The new program will include 16 onsite days as well as guided, independent study through distance delivery technologies. Students will also attend lab seminars with instructors and hands-on training will be emphasized. Students will also attend a practicum where they will gain first-hand knowledge of real EMR work procedures.
EMR training continues to be in demand in northern Alberta and the program is crucial for maintaining the regional employment demands.
