Spotlight on Trillium College’s Massage Therapy Program

Trillium CollegeMassage Therapy is one part of the Canadian health care system that is expected to grow considerably in the next several years. While many people use Massage Therapy as a way to relax and unwind, there’s an increase in the number of people who are using Massage Therapy to get relief from the musculo-skeletal disorders (WRMD’s) that are on the rise.

This may be bad news for those with repetitive motion injuries or soft tissue disorders, but it’s great news for those who are interested in starting a career in Massage Therapy.

Since 2005, the comprehensive Massage Therapy Diploma Program at Trillium College has given students the specialized knowledge and training required in this field. Students are instructed on a variety of crucial skills that require not only training but also sound judgment – for example, while doing thorough assessments of clients or formulating a complete clinical impression or developing a specific treatment plan. Students learn to perform safe, competent and comprehensive Massage Therapy while continually evaluating the outcome and consulting with the client.

As part of the student curriculum at Trillium College, a student Massage Therapy Clinic is now open to the public. Not only can clients enjoy a massage for the very reasonable rate of $25.00 per treatment, but they help prepare students with the skills required for their entry into the work force. All treatments are completed under the supervision of a Registered Massage Therapist and take place in a clinical learning environment.

Trillium College has a very extensive Community Outreach program as well. The program is designed to teach students the benefits of becoming involved in the community, and honing their networking skills from a very early point in the Massage Therapy program.

Students in the Massage Therapy Program can use their skills, experience and education to eventually obtain their College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) registration. Graduates are very successful in finding jobs, with many working with other health care practitioners in multidisciplinary clinics — including private clinics, hospitals, spas, wellness centers, and geriatric care facilities — or even opening their own Massage Therapy clinics.

The Massage Therapy program at Trillium College is offered at the school’s campuses in Oshawa, Peterborough, Kingston, Ottawa, Toronto, St Catharine’s and Burlington.
