Discovery College Owner Gets Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal
Discovery Community College’s Lois McNestry was recently awarded the prestigious Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for her work in the education sector.
McNestry is the president and owner of Discovery Community College, a career college for adults, and was presented with the medal last month at a ceremony in Ottawa.
“I really felt honoured,” said McNestry, who has been working with Discovery Community College for over 12 years.
“I think also proud that our industry stood out because we do make a difference in people’s lives and getting them into work. I was really thrilled the industry was recognized.”
Her medal is one of about 60,000 Diamond Jubilee medallions awarded to worthy Canadians to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th anniversary.
McNestry was the only member of the National Association of Career Colleges to receive one. Discovery Community College has been fully accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of British Columbia, formally PPSEC, since 1996. They offer accelerated career offerings in areas such as Health career training Business career training, and a Web Development diploma.
The have campuses in Campbell River, Parksville, Nanaimo, Selby, Maple Ridge, Surrey and they also offer Online learning.
