
All-time High Number of Freshman Enrolled at Ontario’s Colleges

Ontario’s college’s recently launched a massive advertising campaign.
Canada’s College campuses are bursting at the seams. The numbers reveal that 116,000 fulltime, first-year college students enrolled this year, a spike of more than 20 per cent from five years ago.
Freshman college students actually greatly outnumbered the amount of first-year university students (90,029 ), who also enrolled at a record setting rate this year.
“In this economy, everyone is worried about getting a good job,” said Linda Franklin, president and CEO of Colleges Ontario.
“Greater numbers of students are choosing Ontario college programs that prepare them for their career goals.”
Franklin added that the perception of a college education has changed, as evidenced by the fact that the number of university graduates applying to college has increased more than 40 per cent since 2007.
“There is growing awareness that college programs provide an excellent combination of theoretical knowledge and specific career training,” said Franklin.
“We are pleased to see record numbers of students pursuing college education this year.”
