Algonquin College Adds Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Degree Program
Ottawa’s Algonquin College will soon be one of the few schools in Canada to offer a Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management degree program.
“The hospitality and tourism industry is absolutely booming here in Canada and around the globe,” said Altaf Sovani, the Chair for the School of Hospitality and Tourism at Algonquin College.
The program’s first class of freshmen will start in September of 2012. Algonquin College’s already offers degree program such as a Bachelor of Applied Business: eBusiness Supply Chain Management, a Bachelor of Applied Arts: Interior Design, and a Bachelor of Applied Technology: Photonics programs.
“When you look across the country, there are not many options for students seeking this level of hospitality and tourism training. This degree will help graduates achieve higher level positions within the industry.”
During the four-year program, the curriculum focuses on topics like Perspectives, Global Citizenship, Sustainable Tourism, Environmental Economics, and International Management.
“After looking into a few costly schools overseas, I was thrilled to learn Algonquin College was launching this new program in the fall,” said Matthew Gifford, who will study the program this fall.
“I’ve been working in the industry for about half-a-decade and I wanted to go back to school to help move through the ranks faster.”
