Mount Allison University Modern Languages and Literatures Student Wins Award
Mount Allison University’s Flora Chung recently won first place in the Atlantic-wide Japanese Speech contest, but that’s only one of the languages she speaks. The third-year Modern Languages and Literatures student also speaks English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Spanish, French, German, and Japanese.
A mere 7 languages.
“My speech was called ‘The First Stop of My Adventure’ and is about why I decided to come to Canada, Sackville in particular, from Hong Kong,” said Chung, in an article called 5 Questions with Modern Languages and Literatures student Flora Chung.
“I talked about differences in my life from living in Hong Kong and living in Sackville and how this experience has really broadened my horizons.”
She came to Canada to go to university and chose Mount Allison so she wouldn’t have to write the SAT or TOEFL exams. She added that she also chose Mount Allison because of its good reputation in liberal arts and small size.
“I really enjoy learning other languages and feel this will give me a better cultural understanding of the world around me,” said Chung.
