Tim Hortons Sends Employees Back to School
You might see a job at Tim Hortens, serving up double-doubles and dutchies, as a stepping-stone-job. But you may not see how close that next stone can be.
Since 2005, Tim Hortons has been awarding their employees (and their employees’ children and grandchildren) a chance to better themselves through continuing education. The company awards 220 scholarships each year to deserving candidates from their Canada and United States locations. Each scholarship is valued at $1,000 CDN/USD.
The scholarships are awarded through an application process, with some general guidelines:
- Applicants must be able to show 15 hours of volunteering/community service/community leadership
- Applicants must be employed for 6 continuous months
- Applicants must submit an original essay of 500 words or less, as well as a 100-word summary about themselves.
Tim Hortons’ website boasts a number of “success stories” about recipients who made the most of their opportunity. They showcase people who live everywhere from Ontario to Ohio, and have studied to become everything from a police officer, to a social worker, to a Pharmacy Technician.
