Student Waistlines Beware: KFC’s Double Down Invades Canada
It’s official. KFC’s Double Down sandwich is for sale in Canada, to a polarized mix of salivation and shaking heads from coast-to-coast.
The new sandwich (while many health enthusiasts refuse to call it that) replaces the standard bun with two pieces of seasoned chicken, while the middle has two pieces of bacon and processed Pepper Jack cheese, along with “the Colonel’s savoury, secret sauce.”
“Double Down has so much 100 per cent, premium seasoned chicken, we didn’t have room for a bun,” explains Dan Howe, Chief Marketing Officer, Yum! Restaurants Canada.
Considered mouth-watering by some and life-shortening by others, the Double Down is listed as having 540 Calories, 30g of fat, and 1740 mg of sodium (116 percent of the recommended daily intake).
Students trying to stay thin, but still oddly find themselves in KFC, may want to opt for the Grilled Doublicious. The more conventional chicken sandwich has 380 calories, 11 g fat and 950 mg sodium.
The Double Down is currently offered in KFC Canada’s 729 restaurants. It’s being billed as a limited time offering, but no timeline has been announced for its availability.
