Robertson College Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary
Robertson College has seen many changes in its 100 years.
The college, actually didn’t even bare its current name until 1993. Over the years, it’s been called Dominion Stenographic Service, Dominion Business College, Robertson Shorthand and Secretarial School, The Saskatoon Robertson Career College, and Robertson Career College.
In 1911, founder M.I. Robertson came to Canada from Scotland to live with her sister and brother-in-law in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She and her sister soon started an apprentice-based court reporting business called Dominion Stenographic Service.
Over the next few decades, the school evolved by changing names, locations, and owners several times. In 1985, Don Thomas bought the school and led it through major changes in the curriculum and an expansion to different campuses throughout Prairies.
In 2001, it was purchased again by The Midwestern School of Business and Technology making it a multi-campus college. They also shifted its focus to healthcare, business and Information Technology programs.
More recently, they have expanded again to offer online training to students who can’t attend a traditional “bricks & mortar” setting. iRobertson College, now helps students pursue their career goals through distance and part-time education.
