Find Canada’s Engineering Jobs. Student Career Planning and What to Study

Professional Engineers are in high demand in Canada.
Any College and University students thinking about studying engineering, keep reading. We’re about to tell you where the jobs will be.
Engineers Canada and Randstad Engineering recently worked together for a report called The Engineering Labour Market Conditions. Their data reports on labour market trends, and offers insights into future hiring patterns for 2010 to 2018, providing engineering students, universities, and employers valuable insights.
“The study is very useful for human resources management and career planning,” said Mike Winterfield, President of Randstad Engineering. “Knowing labour market needs and trends will help companies to better develop, understand and promote their selling points.”
The report assesses the various areas of expertise and ranks them according to what type of demand for skilled workers they are expected to see. For 2012, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial and manufacturing, and aerospace are all expected to face significant difficulty in recruiting qualified engineering staff.
If you’re just starting your studies, by 2016 all of the above sectors will still be in a hiring boom, along with electrical/ electronic engineering, and petroleum. By 2018, nearly all sectors should be looking outside regional labour. In an effort to recruit, they are expected to reimburse applicants for traveling to interviews and even potentially help new hires with re-location costs.
