Vancouver Career College Introduces Veterinary Assistant Program

Veterinary assistants are important aides in the veterinary clinic, working alongside vets to provide quality care to animals.
Vancouver Career College is offering a comprehensive Veterinary Assistant’s program at its Coquitlam campus.
The 49-week program was developed with the input of animal care professionals to ensure that graduates have the skills and training required to embark upon a fulfilling career in veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, pet product and supply stores, grooming businesses and zoos.
“As more Canadians adopt pets, there is a growing need for well-trained professionals in the pet care field, including veterinary assistants,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, the college’s VP of Marketing. “That’s great news for those who love working with animals. The Veterinary Assistant program allows students to turn their love for animals into a successful, rewarding career in less than a year.”
Demand for professional pet groomers and animal care workers has risen significantly in recent years, as more pet owners take advantage of the wide variety of care options for their animal companions and become more aware of the routine veterinary care their pets should receive.
The Veterinary Assistant program at Vancouver Career College focuses heavily on preparing students in the clinical and administrative duties that are involved in the veterinary practice. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including anatomy, physiology, veterinary medical terminology, pharmacology, surgical prep and diagnostic imaging, among many others. A three-week on-the-job field placement in an animal care environment is also included in the program.
