Centennial College Introduces Tuition-free Pre-Apprenticeships

The Ontario government is funding the programs, so they are tuition-free.
Centennial College is removing barriers for automotive students who need sponsorship for their apprenticeship training.
Students without strong English language skills or a network of contacts can now take advantage of Centennial College’s two new tuition-free pre-apprenticeship training programs. The programs will be offered this spring and teaches literacy and job-search skills. Facilitators will also help students find a 12-week job placement at an auto repair shop, car dealership or truck repair facility.
The Ontario government is funding the programs, so they are tuition-free. However, students do have to put down a small deposit for their textbooks and tools. Your deposit is returned at the end of training and you will also be given a set of tools to get you started.
You also may be eligible to collect employment insurance or Ontario Works during the program.
Graduates receive exemptions from classes in traditional apprenticeship programs, as you earn credit for either Automotive Service Technician Level 1 or Truck and Coach Technician Level 1.
To qualify, you need to have a grade 12 diploma or equivalent, an Ontario driver’s licence, and the availability to attend full-time classes for 36 consecutive weeks.
Applications are currently being accepted for classes that will begin March 28.
