Selfie Contest Gets Facebook Action for Anderson College
You’ve seen the phrase a million times: “like us on Facebook.” While not all visits to a facebook page automatically translate into likes, one leading healthcare training school has found a way to garner positive attention by using the latest rage in social media: “the selfie.”
Anderson College launched its inaugural Facebook Selfie contest this past July, its first competition for students since joining Facebook back in November 2013. Realizing that selfies are definitely hot right now, the college found that students readily responded to the challenge.
What does the contest involve? Students of Anderson College simply took a selfie with the College as the background image. Then they submitted the photo by email, after which it’s checked for quality issues such as website visibility and overall clarity. After approval, the picture is uploaded to Facebook.
The response over the contest has been huge, with Facebook likes up by over 7,600 per cent. Barry Serebrennikov, Associate Marketing Manager at Anderson College, explains: “We noticed more action on our Facebook page than other social media platforms, however, the traffic was not converting to Likes.” With the first Facebook Selfie Contest ending this past September, the competition is certainly being considered a success, with the student with the most likes being awarded an Ipad Mini.
