Early Childhood Education Bursary Offered to B.C. Students

Being rolled out for the 2014 Fall semester, the bursary will only be available to applicants enrolled at an approved educational institution.

If you’re thinking of a career in early childhood education, now is a great time to pursue the training you’ll need thanks to a new provincial bursary being offered in B.C. Whether you’re looking to begin a course or are already enrolled for a Fall program, the British Columbia Government has partnered with the Early Childhood Educators of BC to give students a helping hand towards tuition.

Funding from the Ministry of Children and Family Development is being passed along to the Early Childhood Educators of BC to allow students to apply for up to $300 per course, with a maximum of $1,500 per semester. Priority for bursaries will be given to Aboriginal students, students in programs with an Aboriginal focus, and students looking to gain an infant/toddler educator designation.

Being rolled out for the 2014 Fall semester, the bursary will only be available to applicants enrolled at an approved educational institution in an ECE program. A list of approved post-secondary institutions is available at the Ministry of Children and Family Development website, and it includes private schools such as Sprott Shaw College, Vancouver Career College, CDI college, and MTI Community College Ltd., as well as public schools such as University of Victoria, Vancouver Community College, Langara College, and Douglas College.

The ECEBC is working with its partners and funders to provide equal distribution of the bursary and to develop and advance the sector of early care education through collaboration and leadership.

You can apply for the bursary starting on Friday, July 18, 2014 at www.ecebc.ca, and you have until Friday, November 7, 2014 to submit Fall 2014 applications.
