Niagara College’s Bitters Beer Now Available at LCBO
Just a few months ago, the Niagara College Teaching Brewery took top honours at the Canadian Brewing Awards for its acclaimed Butler’s Bitter beer and won a Gold in the Amber Ale category at the Ontario Beer Awards. Now, the popular beer is available for purchase at nearly 90 LCBO outlets across the province.
Butler’s Bitter was originally developed as a celebration beer for the bicentennial of the War of 1812, but the popularity of the award-winning beer has grown since receiving its awards and accolades.
Craig Youdale, the acting dean of Niagara College’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute, called the beer “ is a shining example of the excellence being cultivated at the Niagara College Teaching Brewery.”
“The fact that our student-crafted beers are now being sold alongside major labels at the LCBO is a true testament to the quality of our Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program,” says Craig Youdale, the acting dean of Niagara College’s Canadian Food and Wine Institute, adding that the Brewmaster program is “the first of its kind in the country.”
The Canadian Food and Wine Institute is located on the college’s Niagara-on-the-Lake campus. It’s the College’s centre for food wine and beer education and is home to Benchmark, the college’s teaching restaurant, as well as the Teaching Winery and Teaching Brewery.
“We are pleased to support the good work that is being done at Niagara Teaching Brewery,” said James Hume, product manager, Beer and Cider at the LCBO. “This year’s inclusion of Butler’s Bitter is the second time that an excellent product from the brewery is on our shelves. Last year, the First Draught Ale and Lager six pack bottles were also available at select LCBO locations.”
Niagara College’s Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program is a two-year program taught at their Niagara-on-the-Lake campus.
