University of Calgary Students Take a Cold Dip for The United Way
Students at the University of Calgary dove into icy cold water for a good cause.
Some very brave students raised money for The United Way as part of the first annual Chillin’ for Charity polar bear dip fundraiser.
The JDC West Team Haskayne team hosted their first frosty dip on campus earlier this week on the University of Calgary campus.
The team described the event as involving “participants braving the elements to jump – as creatively as possible – into an icy cold pool of water…outside. Think Polar Bear Dip, but on campus, with funds raised going to support the United Way of Calgary and area.”
The event is part of JDC West, a massively popular business competition run by students in Western Canada. Students from 11 of Western Canada’s top universities compete in academic and athletic challenges, a social competition, a parliamentary-style debate, and a charity initiative.
As part of the competition, the JDC West teams are required to host a polar bear dip to fundraise for a local charity.
The University of Calgary is a major contributor to The United Way, with many other functions such as auctions and stair climbing events to raise money for the cause.
