Vancouver Community College Grad Adds Degree to 30 Years of Experience
You would think a resume with over 30 years of hospitality experience would be good enough for most people. However, seasoned hotelier Mark Andrew went to Vancouver Community College wanting more.
“The world of tourism is about the guest experience, so we need to keep learning and growing to better understand how to exceed their expectations,” said Andrew.
In successfully pursuing his bachelor of hospitality management, Andrew said he hopes other mature students will see what he’s accomplished and see what is possible.
“I hope to inspire others to pursue higher education,” said Andrew.
Before studying at Vancouver Community College, he spent the last 30 years in leadership roles at luxury hotels including Hyatt, Starwood and Fairmont. Most recently he used his new degree to land a position at Fairmont Washington, D.C. as their regional vice-president and general manager.
He is quick to credit going back to school for his landing a coveted position, and spoke highly of Vancouver Community College.
“It’s a terrific learning-focused institution where I successfully gained a better insight into the hospitality industry,” said Andrew.
“VCC is well-poised for success in the future.”
