Centennial College Adds Business Programs for Aboriginal Students
Centennial College is offering native students a new and exciting opportunity. The college recently announced they are launching a two-year Aboriginal Business Diploma program and a three-year Business Administration—Accounting (Aboriginal Stream) program.
“Canada’s Aboriginal students have long faced formidable barriers to higher education,” said the college in a media release.
“Responding to this inequity, Centennial College has introduced two business programs that address the native community’s desire for training in business foundations coupled with an understanding of Aboriginal needs, as identified by the Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business.”
They are also helping students break down financial barriers by offering $1000.00 scholarships to 40 aboriginal students, who meet their criteria.
Their Aboriginal Business Diploma program is aimed at mature learners and students who are new to college. Its curriculum was designed in partnership with the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada (AFOA).
Students who study the Business Administration—Accounting (Aboriginal Stream) program can apply for the AFOA’s Certified Aboriginal Financial Manager (CAFM) designation, as well as work towards accreditation as a certified general accountant.
Classes are currently scheduled to start in January of 2012.
