How to Become a Fashion Designer

There are lots of design firms and clothing companies that are always hungry for fresh talent.

If you have an eye for trends and design, you may have already thought about being a fashion designer. If this is the path for you, you can quickly find a career designing everything from high fashion, to designer ready-to-wear fashion, to sportswear or children’s wear.

Your day-to-day tasks will include:

• Designing clothing and new ideas

• Developing basic designers
• Producing a concept and working with mood boards

What do I need to start with:

Creativity is also something that you will need as it is designing and you will need to think of ideas and work with patterns, shapes and sizes.

You definitely need a passion for the industry to succeed, as you will always been learning.

What will I study:

To earn a degree or certificate, you will study the history of clothing and design, along with covering other topics such as how clothes are made and what makes a good product. You will also look into trends in fashion and how to predict them.

What else do I need:

A background in another art based subject can be very helpful in finding employment. It could be in textiles or art, or graphic design.

You need to have a thorough knowledge of iconic designers, so you can always create something new that people will want to buy.
