The new simulation centre will attract more engineering companies, pilots, tug operators, and marine students to train in British Columbia.

The British Columbia Institute of Technology is giving their Marine Engineering Diploma students world-class training with a marine training simulation centre.

“The British Columbia Institute of Technology’s new state-of–the-art marine simulation centre is great news for British Columbia’s marine industry and Canada’s Pacific Gateway,” said Andrew Saxton, Member of Parliament for North Vancouver.

The new centre will have:

  • Seven new ship’s bridges
  • North America’s only 360-degree tug towboat bridge simulator
  • A ship’s main bridge simulation environment
  • An engine room simulator complete with ground-shaking audio special effects, and emergency light.

The new centre allows BCIT students to train without having to leave the province, while making room for even more students. It will also attract more engineering companies, pilots, tug operators, and marine students to train in BC, while helping Canada’s overall marine industry.

“This unprecedented technology allows students to apply marine theory in a realistic and hands-on environment, preparing our graduates for their future and helping them become ready to play a key role in shaping the future of the marine industry in Western Canada,” said Don Wright, President of BCIT.
