March madness indeed.

Canadian sports fan scuffles are usually reserved for the NHL, but this is the playoffs.

A college basketball game last week was the scene for some fan-on-mascot violence, as a fan captured this footage.

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Ooks were playing the Mount Royal University Cougars in an Alberta Colleges Final Four game being played in Lethbridge.

During a stoppage in play, The Cougar’s cheerleaders were performing a dance routine, when the Ooks’ mascot (he’s been called their “lizard” mascot, but he was really just someone in green body-paint) began mocking their dance moves, off to stage right.

One of the Cougars’ fans quickly had enough of this display and delivered a blind side body check to the man in green, putting a stop to his tomfoolery.

The cheerleader’s enforcer then calmly returned to his seat and received some appreciative applause from the fans in the house. Funnily enough, the hitman didn’t seem to receive any sort of admonishment for putting the boom down on another fan. It was the Ooks’ lizard who got a stern talking-to from the building’s head of security.

Fortunately, the body check was where the violence ended. The two fans didn’t exchange punches, merely words and gestures from across the gym.
