Conference to Explore The Relationship Between Media and Education
Toronto will be the sight of an innovative conference this summer.
Worldviews: Media Coverage of Higher Education in the 21st Century will examine the complex relationship between media and higher education.
The event will be held from June 16 to 18, 2011 at places like the University of Toronto, MaRs Discovery District, and Ryerson University.
“Higher education is more important than ever to our social vitality and economic success, yet it depends on the media to articulate its mission to the public,” said Mark Langer, President of the Ontario Confederation of Faculty Associations and Carleton University professor of film studies.
The conference will examine how the media affects perceptions of higher education and how higher education engages the media to mould perceptions of its importance.
“This conference is the first attempt to seriously examine the implications and the changing nature of this relationship,” said Langer.
The conference will feature completely interactive debates, panels, workshops, film screenings, and interviews. It will also have speakers from North and South America, Europe, Australasia, Africa, and other areas in developing countries.
You can take part in the conference by attending in person, watching a live streamed broadcast, or downloading a broadcast from their website.
