Is English Your Second Language? There’s an App For That.
Foreign students studying in Canada can now ditch bulky dictionaries for an iPhone.
As international enrollment in Canada’s school continues to climb, more and more foreign students are walking around campus- all with different comfort levels surrounding the English language. But looking up a word or phrase just got a bit easier.
The iPhone offers applications like EF Mobile English Basic Edition. The app was created by EF Englishtown (the world’s largest online English school) and gives you 5,000 illustrated flashcards for English words in 300 categories to build your vocabulary. You can also take advantage of audio tools, listening tests, and pronunciation practice tools.
It also features ways to track your learning and chart your improvement.
“When we saw that our students were using their mobile phones to look up words even more frequently than to browse the web, we realized we had an opportunity to put English learning literally into the hands of our students,” says Bill Fisher, President of EF Englishtown.
The app is available in Chinese, French, Italian, German, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.
