TheGreenestWorkforce.ca is offering 15 paid internships for summer 2014.

TheGreenestWorkforce.ca has launched a social media contest that allows students to compete online for 15 paid summer Green Dream Internships. The 15 positions will be available in the summer of 2014.

TheGreenestWorkforce.ca website was launched earlier this year by the Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) with support from the Government of Canada. It was designed to encourage eco-conscious Canadians to learn more about the forest products industry and consider it as a career path.

Get Your Resume Ready

To enter the contest, students must submit a resume, a photograph and a short paragraph explaining why a paid summer Green Dream Internship would be perfect for them. Students must then solicit online support in order to receive votes for their photographs. Applicants whose photographs and essays get the most votes will then be shortlisted for the summer 2014 internship positions.

“We know that we have to compete with other sectors for skilled workers and we see this on-line social media contest as a fun way to attract a next generation workforce,” says David Lindsay, President and CEO of FPAC. “Our goal is to encourage college and university students seeking interesting work experience to look to the forest products industry, a sector they may never have considered as a potential employer.”

FPAC Goal: 60,000 New Workers by 2020

FPAC has used its Vision2020 campaign as a means of renewing its workforce with an additional 60,000 workers, including engineers, millwrights, electricians, sales staff, truckers, foresters, chemists and more. FPAC also wants to achieve other significant benchmarks by the end of the decade, namely improving the environmental performance of the forest sector by 35% and generating an additional $20 billion in economic activity from new, greener products and markets.

“We invite all Canadians to visit the GreenestWorkforce website to see the exciting direction of the forest products industry and to apply for career opportunities now available,” says Lindsay. “We also want students to apply on-line for the 15 available paid internships in order to get valuable job training, skills development, and real-world experience within our growing sector,” says Lindsay.
