The University of Alberta Plays The World’s Largest Game of Dodgeball
Heads up! The University of Alberta recently broke their own mark in the Guinness Book of World Records, for the world’s largest game of dodgeball.
Nearly 5000 people (total headcount was 4,979) hurled 1200 red balls at each other for about an hour last week.
Frank Robinson, the Dean of students at U of A , said their first record was set in 2010 with 1,198 players, 2011 saw 2,012 players, before they doubled that number with this year’s total.
“This is a major lift for students, seeing more than a few thousand people cheering. I think it’s just one of those times when we can say, university is more than just a bunch of people going to classes. It’s definitely more than that,” said Robinson.
“It does not matter if it’s a dodgeball game or spelling bee, the point is if when you have that many people gaining a sense of community, you can’t help but feel good about it.”
Guinness World Record adjudicator Philip Robertson flew in from New York to oversee the event and announced, “And with that, I’m happy to announce that University of Alberta, Canada, has a new Guinness World Record.”
