Want to work in film or TV? Now if the time to get trained and hit the workforce, as Ontario’s film and television production industry just recorded their best year ever.
Film and television contributed a whopping $1.26 billion to the provincial economy in 2011. This is an enormous increase of $300 million (or 31%) over the previous year, according to figures compiled by the Ontario Media Development Corporation.
“We are delighted by the outstanding performance of the film and television industry,” said Karen Thorne-Stone, President & CEO, Ontario Media Development Corporation.
“It is a testimonial to the fact that Ontario offers a ‘total package’ of incentives to attract foreign and domestic productions, including: the right mix of government support, stable and competitive financial incentives, world-class infrastructure, superb talent and skills and diverse locations.”
Most importantly, the $1.26 billion in production activity accounted for almost 30,000 full-time direct and spin-off jobs.
There are a number of schools and colleges that can help you get the skills and knowledge you’ll need to work in film or television. In Ontario, you can study at Trebas Institute, or the RCC Institute of Technology – Toronto Film School. Elsewhere, The Art Institute – Vancouver has a very well respected name in the industry.
