Australia Lowers Student Visa Assessment Levels to Study Abroad
After faulting as the world’s favourite place to study abroad, Australia is making it easier for international students. They recently lowered the student visa assessment levels for 38 countries across the globe.
“Prospective students and their families, agents and education providers should be aware that these changes will lower the minimum evidentiary requirements needed for the grant of a student visa for the selected countries and education sectors,” said a Department of Immigration and Citizenship spokesman in a statement.
Australia used to be the undisputed go-to for students looking to study in a foreign land. Now however, they find their enrollment numbers taking a dip after well-publicized violence against international students in recent years. Their student visa applications have plunged by 80% over the past two years.
They’re now trying to re-build their international image, as major student exporters like India are now looking at Canada for college or university. Canada’s numbers are soaring with Canadian officials estimating a 400% growth in Indian student visa applications (from 3,152 to nearly 14,000) between 2009 and 2010.
