XM Canada Survey Says Kids Who Play Music Go to College or University
You swore those violin lessons you took as a child wouldn’t pay off. Wrong.
A new survey released by XM Canada says that if you play an instrument you will probably go to college or university.
The poll results showed that 69% of the respondents who learned to play an instrument as a child grew up to attend a college or university. Only 59 per cent of respondents who didn’t play an instrument went on to higher education.
“Learning to play an instrument is a huge part of many Canadians’ lives and has significant impact years later,” said Janet Gillespie, Marketing Vice-President, XM Canada.
“Ensuring that Canadian children have access to music education is critical for keeping Canadian music alive and growing people not only culturally but personally.”
The positive impacts of music education also struck a chord in building skills for the rest of your life. 46 per cent of those surveyed said they feel music helps to increase your mental focus, 45 per cent felt it heightens creativity, 32 per cent felt it builds confidence and another 32 per cent felt it helps the ability to self-teach.
