The Willis College of Business Health and Technology has awarded a worthy student their scholarship named after Dr. William Commanda.

Lynda Stewart will receive $10,000 to cover the cost of tuition, books and fees to study at Willis College.

The scholarship is aimed at Aboriginal students from First Nations, Inuit and/or Métis communities who want to study business or information technology programs at Willis.

“After careful review of the applicant’s qualifications for the scholarship, we have decided to award this year’s Dr. William Commanda’s scholarship to Lynda Stewart.” said Rima Aristocrat, President of Willis College.

Stewart previously attended Canadore College in North Bay, Ontario to study social services. She was born to a Métis family on November 17, 1970, or as Aboriginal people would say, she was born when the last of the Canada geese where leaving for their long journey south.

The scholarship is named after the famous Dr. William Commanda. At the incredible age of 97-years-old, he is seen by many as the symbol of light emerging from the darkness of the first World War, illuminating a path to a new world with his vision for a Circle of All Nations, A Culture of Peace.
